What To Pack

The following list is a suggested guide. All Laundry is done daily in camp, so clients can pack light. Green or khaki colored clothing is recommended. It is important to remember that regional flights have strict weight restrictions of 15 kilos (33 lbs.) and prefer soft luggage. All hard gun cases will be stored in Lusaka at our office. Camouflage clothing is acceptable while in the safari camp however we seriously recommend that you do NOT wear it during travel in Zambia, as it is not permitted here.

Photographic Equipment

Of course, this is very much a question of personal taste and experience; however, we recommend:

  • A small, automatic pocket camera with a 38 to 90 or 120/140 zoom and flash; or,

  • If you bring a reflex, use a 38 or 50 lens for your posted pictures, and a 70-200 lens for other uses; again, a flash is crucial.

  • A Polaroid camera is spectacular with the local folks. You might get invaluable on-the-spot memories here.

  • All equipment should be kept in sturdy pouches or soft cases, as dust is ever present.

  • Make sure to bring only FRESH BATTERIES with all your gear and bring spare batteries too if your equipment runs on batteries.

Small Gifts for Staff

All the staff really appreciate any small gifts: T-shirts, lighters, pocketknives, baseball caps, and similar items are of great value to them.  Make sure you don’t buy expensive stuff – it is not the value; it is the item as such that counts.

Small Gifts for Village Trips

The villagers, especially the kids, really love and appreciate when clients come by and bring gifts. Below is a list of small gifts that we recommend bringing if you plan on visiting the nearby communities.

  • Pens/Pencils

  • Notebooks

  • Soap

  • Sanitary products

  • T-shirts of all sizes

  • Candy

  • Soccer balls!!

With some advance notice, we can arrange for a gift package of your choosing to be in camp so you don’t have to travel with these items.

A few suggestions with regards to your intended trip to Zambia.

  1. Make 5x colored copies of your passport and other important documentation (e.g. US Customs Form 4457). Have one copy in different places in your luggage, for example, one in your rifle case, camera bag, carry-on luggage – this will assist tremendously in the unlikely and unfortunate event of you losing your passport while travelling in Zambia.

  2. Have a name tag on each piece of luggage so it can be traced in the event your luggage ends up in different places. Please add Epic  Safaris contact details on the name tag so the local authorities have a local contact they can reach. Specify that this is the contact details in Zambia.

  3. Have at least one extra set of clothing in your carry-on in the event your bags end up temporarily misplaced. This will allow you at least a day’s clean clothing while your luggage is located.

  4. Have a toothbrush and personal and prescribed medication in your carry-on for the same reasons. Traveling with an additional prescription from your doctor is also a good idea.
